An Innovative Waterwheel-Rotating Biological Contactor (WRBC) System for Rural Sewage Treatment

The treatment of rural sewage has become an important part environmental protection. In this study, a novel waterwheel-rotating biological contactor (WRBC) system, with intensified biofilm and high-shock load resistance, was applied to treat sewage. When the COD concentration actual fluctuated between 79–530 mg/L, removal efficiency 41.3–94.5%, NH4+-N always reach 100% TN changed 14.3–86.2%, which greatly affected by water intake. effluent ranged from 5 14 meets emission requirements. It maintained absolute stability when change rates influent loads (N or COD) varied ?60% 100%. morphology composition extracellular polymeric substances were evaluated based on SEM FTIR spectra. results showed that -NH2 group content increased compared inoculated sludge, formed more uneven compact clusters after Based 16SrRNA high-throughput sequencing techniques, bacterial diversity microbial community structure WRBC system over time revealed. This study may help guide optimization strategies for effective pollutant in areas.
